The 2017 Asian Cup produced a wonderful Women’s Singles finale as Zhu Yuling overcame fellow Chinese star Liu Shiwen in a seven games thriller.

Ranked 3rd and 4th in the women’s game respectively, Zhu Yuling and Liu Shiwen are no strangers to competing in gold medal matches and very little separated the two players in the 2017 Asian Cup final.

Zhu Yuling appeared to throw away a big opportunity prior to the deciding end, as Liu Shiwen recovered from match point down to claim the sixth game in deuce.

Surely the momentum was against Zhu Yuling heading into the concluding game, but the 22-year-old kept her cool and eventually crossed the finish line with little to no problems in the decider (6-11, 11-9, 11-8, 10-12, 11-7, 11-13, 11-6).

Following the match Zhu Yuling expressed her delight at the result and is happy to see her game continue to improve, “Both of us performed well today. It was difficult to adjust to the speed of her play but I managed to adapt and find a good tempo. Winning the Asian Cup demonstrates that I have made some progress recently and reached a new level.”
