Two-time World Champion Zhang Jike has returned to the table after a lengthy spell away from the action, competing in an exhibition match on Saturday 2nd April.

Last seen at the 2018 ITTF World Tour Japan Open where he achieved a runner-up finish behind Tomokazu Harimoto, Zhang Jike has spent over a year and a half on the sidelines when it comes to professional table tennis.

However, during a period in time when the world craves sporting action Zhang Jike has returned to our screens to take part in a special exhibition match against Chinese National Champion Hou Yingchao.

The match was streamed live online as fans were treated to an exciting contest between one of the sport’s greatest and an epic defender. Just over 35 minutes in length the video offers not just a rare glimpse at Zhang but also at sport in general these days.

Incredible rallies throughout, if you’re a fan of watching all-out attack against defensive mastery then this is a match for you. However, Hou Yingchao is a versatile player who is more than capable of throwing in the odd winner here and there.

Both players giving it a really good go, there could only be one winner though and that turned out to be Mr. Grand Slam himself Zhang Jike (35-27).

It may have only been an exhibition match but it’s clear that Zhang Jike still has the quality to compete hopefully we will see the legend back in action again in the not too distant future.
