Yang Haeun emerged successful at the 2018 Polish Open in Spala with the Korean star claiming a superb five games win against Japan’s Honoka Hashimoto to lift the Women’s Singles trophy.

In a meeting between the third and fourth seeded players, two contrasting styles were on display with the positive attacking approach from Yang Haeun attempting to breakdown the steady defence of Honoka Hashimoto.

Consistency proved vital in the opening end of the match for Hashimoto, who went on to establish an early lead in the tie but Yang levelled the scores at 1-1 thanks to a strong response from the Korean in game two.

The third end also went in Yang’s favour by the narrowest of margins before the player from Korea Republic completed the job with back-to-back wins in games four and five to seal the gold medal (8-11, 11-7, 14-12, 11-8, 11-8).

Success in Spala means that Yang Haeun has finally won her first Women’s Singles title at an ITTF Challenge Series event while Honoka Hashimoto remains with just the one victory after suffering her third defeat in the gold medal contest.
