It was the teenager from Japan, Tomokazu Harimoto who took the Men’s Singles prize at the 2019 ITTF World Tour Bulgaria Open in Panagyurishte.

However, it was no easy feat, facing the seemingly under ranked Zhao Zihao of China, who had overcome various higher ranked adversaries to reach the final alongside his young opponent.

In an intense battle Harimoto came out victorious with a 4-2 victory (11-6, 12-14, 11-5, 13-11, 13-15, 11-4) against the Chinese penholder.

“I feel very strong mentally and, even though I lost a couple of games during the final, I managed to fight and never gave up. I kept going and ended up winning. I’m not going to take things easy now. I’ll keep pushing on to reach new heights.” – Tomokazu Harimoto

In the Women’s Singles, Team China dominated the field yet again with an all-Chinese final.

With the two finalists, Chen Xingtong and He Zhuojia, having a similar rank, one expected the conquest to be a close thriller. But, it was Chen Xingtong who stole the crown from her higher ranked teammate, winning 4-1 (11-4, 7-11, 12-10, 11-6, 11-4) to secure China’s reign at the Bulgarian Open.
