France’s Simon Gauzy has stated that he is still recovering from a back injury and may miss the 2018 Europe Top 16 Cup competition which is set to take place in just a couple of weeks time.

Seeded third for the event, Gauzy was anticipated to be one of the key silverware contenders in Montreux, Switzerland but is now in a race against time to be fit enough to compete at the tournament.

“I have been suffering from a back injury for more than one month now and it’s difficult for me to come back. I have no aim at the moment… my only aim is to come back as soon as possible from that injury.” – Simon Gauzy.

Last time out at the Europe Top 16 Cup Gauzy turned out to be one of the standout players on display in Antibes, defeating Timo Boll on his way to securing a podium spot.

“Top 16 last year was great for me. Playing in France was for me an awesome experience and I played some great matches. I missed the final by narrow margins but that was great match.” – Simon Gauzy.

The 2018 Europe Top 16 Cup competition will be contested from 3rd-4th February.
