Lin Gaoyuan has made the table tennis headlines for the second week in a row, with his wonderful display at the 2017 Austrian Open in Linz where he secured his first ever Men’s Singles title on the ITTF World Tour.

Stunning spectators at the 2017 Asian Cup, Lin Gaoyuan was in a confident mood ahead of his trip to Austria but was forced to enter the tournament from the qualifying rounds as an unseeded player.

Despite the setback Lin Gaoyuan successfully negotiated his qualification matches before claiming victories over seeded opposition in four main draw encounters to book his spot in the final where he met seventh seed and fellow Chinese compatriot Yan An.

Both finalists were keen to demonstrate their attacking capabilities as spectators in Linz were treated to a breathtaking display of fast-paced table tennis action.

Very little separated the two rivals in the final but overall it was Lin Gaoyuan who came through the tie as the happier player, claiming the gold medal with a 4-1 victory over Yan An (12-10, 11-9, 12-10, 10-12, 11-7).

Following the conclusion of the match Lin Gaoyuan was delighted to have won his second trophy in successive weeks and his first World Tour title, “I’m very happy to be able win my first World Tour title. I’m very satisfied with my performance during this period of time, claiming another title after the Asian Cup with such a tight schedule. I think I played well on court in the final. I have played in so many World Tour events, and now finally with a title, it’s a dream come true for me.”
