Miyu Kato has won her first Women’s Singles title at an ITTF Challenge Series event following a terrific outing at the 2018 Slovenia Open in Otocec.

The second seed’s chances of a gold medal finish looked to be in serious doubt as Miyu Kato fell behind to her fellow Japanese compatriot Sakura Mori by a massive 0-3 deficit.

However, a superb response saw Miyu Kato recover the next four games to defeat third seed Sakura Mori by a 4-3 score-line (10-12, 10-12, 5-11, 13-11, 11-6, 11-6, 13-11).

This was Miyu Kato’s first head-to-head battle with Sakura Mori at senior level but the two had faced each other at Under 21 level on five occasions in 2016 with the former of the two players having won three of those encounters.
