The 2018 Slovenia Open Men’s Singles title has been awarded to Mizuki Oikawa after the Japanese competitor defeated Slovak rival Lubomir Pistej in the final.

Seeded 24th in Otocec, Mizuki Oikawa defied the odds with victories over the likes of Spain’s Alvaro Robles and top seed Liao Cheng-Ting (Chinese Taipei) to earn his spot in the gold medal contest.

Competing in his first final at senior level, it was also Mizuki Oikawa’s first encounter with Slovakia’s Lubomir Pistej who entered the tie seeded 10 positions higher than the player from Japan.

Yet, against the odds it was Mizuki Oikawa who prevailed defeating Lubomir Pistej across six games to lift the trophy (15-13, 2-11, 11-5, 10-12, 11-9, 13-11).

This is Mizuki Oikawa’s first-ever Men’s Singles gold medal at an ITTF Challenge Series event.
