Spectators at the Halmstad Arena witnessed a huge upset on day four of the 2018 World Team Table Tennis Championships as fourth seeds France failed to progress from the group stage of the Men’s Championship Division.

The team of Simon Gauzy, Emmanuel Lebesson and Quentin Robinot ended their Group D campaign on a high with a thunderous 3-0 display against Poland, who finished at the foot of the group.

However, in a shocking turn of events the French team missed out on a spot in the last 12 with group rivals Croatia earning a stunning 3-1 victory over Korea Republic.

The day’s outcomes put Korea Republic through as Group D winners with Austria, who defeated India 3-2, claiming the runner up spot.

Croatia’s win proved enough to send them through in third position, narrowly finishing ahead of France on games difference.
