China’s Lin Gaoyuan has successfully added a Men’s World Cup bronze medal to his collection, emerging victorious over Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov in the third place match at the 2018 edition of the event held at Disneyland Paris.

Fourth seed Lin Gaoyuan found himself competing for the bronze medal after losing out to fellow countryman Fan Zhendong at the semi-finals stage earlier in the day while Dimitrij Ovtcharov’s hopes of defending the title were ended by Timo Boll.

The race for the top step of the podium may have proved one step too far, but for both Lin Gaoyuan and Dimitrij Ovtcharov there was still an opportunity to end their respective campaigns on a positive note.

Holding the superior seeding position, but Dimitrij Ovtcharov would end up missing out on the medals podium with Lin Gaoyuan coming out on top 4-1 (11-7, 11-9, 9-11, 11-4, 11-3) to register a personal best finish at the Men’s World Cup.

“I’m very happy that I won the bronze medal. It’s a pity that I lost the match this morning but I gave my best, the same in this match. I’m happy in the end.” – Lin Gaoyuan
