One of England’s biggest names in the modern era of table tennis Liam Pitchford is preparing to make his first appearance at the prestigious Europe Top 16 Cup competition.

Following an outstanding campaign on the international circuit last year the 25-year-old successfully secured his spot at the upcoming continental event set to take place in Montreux, Switzerland from 2nd-3rd February.

Speaking to the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU) the English star, who has been seeded fourth on his Top 16 debut, insists that he’s just looking to relish the experience of participating rather than setting any lofty goals for the event:

“It’s my first Top 16 so it’s a fun opportunity for me, I try not to think about where I’m seeded I’ll just take it one match at a time because I know all the opponents are very good players… I was first reserve one year ago and went there to watch and practice so I kind of know what to expect but it will be different going out on to the table and playing. However, it’s something I’m very much looking forward to.” – Liam Pitchford

Looking ahead to the rest of 2019, Pitchford has his eyes set on two big objectives:

“A big goal is of course to win the European Games and get a ticket for Tokyo but also just to keep enjoying my game and playing well.” – Liam Pitchford
