July: Chen Meng

chen_meng_28_06_15_LargeChen Meng of China is the subject of SD Sport’s spotlight for July following her success at the 2015 Japan Open. She was born on January 15th 1994 and plays with her right hand using the orthodox shakehand grip.

Chen is one of China’s young and upcoming players, and the 21-year-old has enjoyed a fairly successful table tennis career to date. She began to catch peoples attention after winning the girl’s singles and doubles events at the 2011 World Junior Table Tennis Championships beating fellow countrywoman Zhu Yuling in the final, and partnered Gu Yuting in the doubles.

After winning the 2015 Japan Open, Chen Meng has risen four places to world no.7 (July), but she has previously been ranked as high as no.4 in the world in March 2014.

Before claiming the title in Japan, Chen Meng had won four Pro Tour gold medals in the women’s singles category (Suzhou 2012, Doha 2012, Stockholm 2013 and Suzhou 2013).

Chen Meng plays for Shandong Luneng in the Women’s Chinese Super League along with Li Xiaoxia, Gu Yuting, Gu Ruochen and Fan Siqi.
