February: Aruna Quadri

Congratulations to Quadri Aruna who has become the ITTF Star Player of the year at an award ceremony held in Dubai on 7th January 2015 in the United Arab Emirates. Aruna also won the Star Point category for
his quarter-final battle against China’s Zhang Jike in Düsseldorf.

Aruna, the world number 30, was judged to be the best male player ahead of world number one China’s Xu Xin, Fan Zhendong ( 2014 Youth Olympic Games gold medallist) and Portugal’s Marcos Freitas ( 2014 European Team Championship winner).

Aruna was born in Oyo in Nigeria in August 1988; he started playing table tennis at the age of 8 and turned professional in 2010 at the age of 22. He competed for Nigeria at the 2012 Olympic games and at the ITTF World Cup in 2014, reaching the quarter-finals in the Men’s Singles against Zhang Jike.

Currently Quadri Aruna plays for GDSR Os Toledos in the Portugese league.
