Current World No.1, China’s Fan Zhendong successfully retained his ITTF Men’s World Cup title, lifting the trophy for the fourth time in his career at the 2020 edition of the event in Weihai, China.

The tournament followed seeding procedure with top seed Fan Zhendong, 23, facing his fellow teammate and second seed, Ma long, 32, in the final of the prestigious World Cup.

Exciting from start to finish, the race to be crowned champion in Weihei was jaw-dropping, packed with incredible rallies and ecstatic fighting spirit from both of the two legendary table tennis players.

Fans across the world were thrilled to see two of the sport’s biggest names meet head-to-head in the all-important final as Fan Zhendong and Ma Long fought out another thrilling contest. Two players deserving of the illustrious title, but there could only be one winner and it was Fan who eventually clinched the match, and ultimately the title, in a nail-bitingly close seven game affair between the two (3-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-6, 7-11, 7-11, 11-9).

“I would like to thank the Local Organising Committee and the ITTF who, under such difficult circumstances, managed to pull off one of the biggest events like the World Cup. I would also like to thank my team. Despite this pandemic, we could continue to train at a very high level. After eight months without international events, I didn’t feel very rusty or unable to do what I set out to.” – Fan Zhendong
