Chen Meng has won her first Women’s Singles trophy on the ITTF World Tour Grand Finals stage following a terrific display against fellow Chinese representative Zhu Yuling in the 2017 final.

Day three of the competition saw Chen Meng guarantee her spot at the top of the women’s world rankings list as of January 2018 and one day later the 23-year-old concluded the year in style with title joy in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Heading into the final Chen Meng had every reason to be confident having defeated Zhu Yuling in both of their encounters on the 2017 ITTF World Tour, but with the opposite outcome occurring at the 2017 World Championships earlier in the year the final of the Women’s Singles draw in Astana was expected to be a close contest.

However, in the end it was a one-sided match as Chen Meng earned a dominant 4-0 victory over Zhu Yuling (11-6, 11-3, 11-6, 12-10) to leave Astana with the Women’s Singles title.

“Actually I was prepared to play the full seven games against Zhu Yuling. We have faced each other previously this year and even though I won that match too, it wasn’t an easy win, so today I came fully prepared, but maybe there’s also some luck involved here.” – Chen Meng.
