The Women’s Singles title on offer at the 2018 Austrian Open has been awarded to Chen Meng after the Chinese star successfully dethroned 2017 champion Wang Manyu at the final hurdle in Linz.

Chen Meng booked her spot in the final courtesy of a sensational display against top seed Zhu Yuling and in the gold medal contest the fifth seed was in stunning form yet again.

Dominant from start to finish Chen Meng was rarely troubled throughout the course of the final, picking off last year’s winner Wang Manyu in straight games to seal the title (11-8, 11-9, 11-4, 11-7).

“I did not expect to win this match that easily. I focused a lot on my tactics rather than thinking about winning this tournament here in Austria; this was crucial to perform at such a high level. Even though I am delighted about my victory, it is essential that I can learn something from my matches and improve myself.” – Chen Meng

Chen Meng has now beaten Wang Manyu in all three of their encounters in Women’s Singles finals, collecting her ninth singles gold medal on the ITTF World Tour in the process.
