China’s Chen Meng has secured her fourth ITTF Finals title on the bounce with a staggering 4-1 win over fellow compatriot and tournament fourth seed Wang Manyu (11-9, 11-13, 14-12, 11-8, 11-5) on Sunday 22nd November.

Having lifted the Women’s World Cup two weeks previous, Chen Meng, who is currently World No.1 in the Women’s Singles category, looked to be in tip-top condition as she marched her way through to the final in Zhengzhou.

Despite the seemingly emphatic score-line, it was by no means an easy ride for Chen, who was pushed hard in a rocky start to the match that tied up both Chinese players at one game apiece.

As the match progressed Chen began to find her element, winning a tight third game which ultimately paved the way towards her five-game victory over Wang at the ITTF Finals.

“The first three games were very close. The difference was always by two points. Despite being in the lead most of the time, Wang Manyu kept closing the gap and the entire match was always tight. She was really determined and played very good shots, putting me under a lot of pressure. I could feel that she really wanted to win. At a few crucial moments, she made errors, but I made several myself as well.” – Chen Meng

If yet another title wasn’t enough for Chen Meng fans around the globe, she also made history by becoming the first-ever player in the history of the sport to win four consecutive ITTF Finals singles golds!
