China’s Chen Meng has collected her 15th Women’s Singles title on the ITTF World Tour after beating Japan’s Mima Ito to gold at the 2020 ITTF World Tour Platinum Qatar Open in Doha (3-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-7, 11-7).

On the road to the final, Chen Meng negotiated fixtures against Honoka Hashimoto and Sofia Polcanova without dropping a game before claiming victories over fellow compatriots Wang Yidi (4-1) and Wang Manyu (4-2).

As for Mima Ito, she needed five games to see off Gu Yuting and Hitomi Sato, following up with a 4-2 win over Singapore’s Feng Tianwei and an outstanding 4-0 success over Olympic champion Ding Ning.

Ending up on the losing side in her three previous meetings with Chen, but it was Ito who struck first in the final with her incredible pace proving too hot to handle for the World No.1.

Chen hasn’t suffered defeat since the 2019 German Open in October last year and she wasn’t about to let her sensational run of results draw to a halt in Doha.

Finding her composure, Chen managed not one, not two, not three but four game wins on the bounce to reserve her place on the top step of the medals podium with a 4-1 victory.

Joy for Chen Meng who can’t have done her Tokyo 2020 aspirations any damage while Mima Ito’s wait for an eighth Women’s Singles title goes on.
