Busan To Host 2020 World Team Championships

The 2020 World Team Table Tennis Championships will be staged in the port city of Busan located in South Korea.

Announced at the ITTF Annual General Meeting, which took place alongside the 2018 World Team Championships in Halmstad, the news that the World Table Tennis Championships would be heading to South Korea for the first time came following the withdrawal of rival bids from San Jose, USA and Ekaterinburg, Russia.

Both teams behind the San Jose and Ekaterinburg bids have expressed interest in hosting future World Championships, a move which ITTF president Thomas Weikert welcomed:

“The entire AGM was impressed about the quality of the Busan bid. I am certain that our Korean colleagues will do an amazing job at hosting a spectacular World Championships that will inspire millions across the world to play and enjoy table tennis. We look forward to welcoming back the USA and Russia to again bid for the world’s biggest table tennis event soon.” – Thomas Weikert

The Hungarian capital of Budapest will host the 2019 World Table Tennis Championships featuring singles and doubles action before Busan welcomes the world’s best table tennis teams in 2020.
