Wang Manyu has won her first ever Women’s Singles title on the ITTF World Tour after reaching the top step of the podium at the 2017 Austrian Open in Linz.

Runner up at both the 2017 Qatar Open and 2017 Australia Open, Wang Manyu was determined to finally receive a gold medal at the third attempt an objective she completed in style.

Seeded sixth for the competition in Linz, Wang Manyu was the favourite to prevail in the final with the unseeded qualifier Gu Yuting providing the opposition.

However, despite the end 4-0 scoreline suggesting a comfortable outing for Wang Manyu it was anything but that, and Gu Yuting can feel proud of her efforts in the match (11-9, 12-10, 11-2, 11-9).

“Even though I won 4-0, three of the games were won by a narrow two-points difference, so it wasn’t as easy as the overall 4-0 seems” said the Women’s Singles champion after the final. “It’s my first World Tour title, with a first there will be a second, a third and so on. I hope this will be a good start for me.”
