Fakel Gazprom Orenburg has won the Men’s Champions League trophy for the fourth occasion, after defeating Borussia Düsseldorf across two legs in the 2016-2017 final.

The opening match between the finalists saw Orenburg race to a comfortable 0-3 away victory, and it didn’t take the Russian side much time to finish the tie off with Dimitrij Ovtcharov defeating Kristian Karlsson (11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 12-10) to guarantee success.

Despite the final being put beyond any doubt there was still plenty more action to feature.

Orenburg’s lead was extended by Jun Mizutani, who came out on top against Timo Boll without dropping a game (11-7, 11-5, 11-8), but German club Düsseldorf fought back as Anton Källberg and Stefan Fegerl beat Vladimir Samsonov (11-6, 8-11, 11-2, 4-11, 12-14) and Alexey Smirnov (10-12, 11-5, 8-11, 11-7, 9-11) respectively to level the tie.

Yet, it was not meant to be for Düsseldorf as Jun Mizutani’s four games win against Kristian Karlsson (11-7, 11-9, 11-5) gave Orenburg the 3-2 victory.
