The Women’s Singles title on offer at the 2017 Czech Open has been awarded to Japanese teenage star Mima Ito.

Entering the event without a Women’s Singles gold medal on the 2017 ITTF World Tour Mima Ito was determined to impress in Olomouc, a goal which she achieved with great success.

Mima Ito met Kasumi Ishikawa in the final of the 2017 Bulgarian Open just a matter of weeks back, and while it was the latter player who prevailed on that occasion the title match in Olomouc produced quite the opposite outcome.

Putting in a confident display Mima Ito demonstrated why she is one of the most exciting young talents in the sport, toppling the top seed Kasumi Ishikawa by a 4-1 scoreline in the final (11-5, 15-13, 11-3, 9-11, 11-4).

“Last week at the Bulgaria Open, I won the doubles, but finished second in the singles”, said Mima Ito after the final. “This time I was able to win doubles and also singles; so I feel very happy, but I am also very tired!”

Victory in Olomouc means that Mima Ito now has four Women’s Singles gold medals from ITTF World Tour competitions, having competed in six finals in the category.
