India’s Manika Batra has set her sights on improving her position in the world rankings table moving forwards and is keen to up her performance levels at future tournaments.

The world rankings structure is set to undergo some big changes in 2018 with more emphasis being focused on how far each player progresses at tournaments, and Manika Batra is hoping that the new format will help Indian competitors advance up the rankings ladder.

“I need to improve my rankings” stated Batra. “From next year, the ranking system is changing. Now, it’s not just about how many pro tour events we play. If we are able to better our earlier performances and progress to the knockout rounds each time, we get more points and that will benefit the Indian players a lot.”

Another big focus for Manika Batra in 2018 is the Commonwealth Games set to take place on the Gold Coast, and the 22-year-old is optimistic about India’s medal chances at the event if preparation goes according to plan, “I have to work on my ranking separately. Right now, in doubles, we have a good team. We need to carry that momentum forward and try to win a medal. So the national camps give us an opportunity to do that.”
