The Men’s Singles title at the 2017 Japan Open has been won by Ma Long, after the World No.1 claimed another victory over fellow Chinese star Fan Zhendong.

Ma Long recently edged out Fan Zhendong across seven games in the thrilling Men’s Singles final at the 2017 World Championships, but fast forward a couple of weeks to the Japan Open final and this time Ma Long registered a much more comfortable victory.

20-year-old Fan Zhendong is one of the most exciting talents in the men’s game and is a certain future World champion, but the young star never really got going in the Men’s Singles title decider in Tokyo as Ma Long stormed to a 4-1 triumph (11-7, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-5).

Entering the tournament with only one goal in mind, Ma Long has finally won the Men’s Singles gold medal at the Japan Open for the first time in his career.

Victorious in 34 Men’s Singles finals on the ITTF World Tour Ma Long is delighted to finally add the Japan Open trophy to his list of achievements, “Of course I’m feeling very happy about this title, my first Japan Open Singles title. I finished second 10 years ago, so it feels great that I finally broke this curse. I’m pleased with my performance today, especially because we just finished the World Championships, and everyone’s tired from all the action.”
