For 20 years Peter Teglas served as an active coach in Hungary, helping young stars and senior players to reach their full potential with great results.

Coach Teglas guided the Hungarian women’s team to European Championships gold in 2007, a terrific feat which hadn’t been achieved since 2000.

Hungary to this day holds the most Women’s Team titles on the European Championships stage and Teglas believes the country’s trophy winning campaign in 2007 was made possible thanks to a positive team mentality.

“There are different people, your role is to keep them together. You have to be patient first of all. In 2007, we won the European Championships with Kriztina Toth, Georgina Pota, and Petra Lovas. They had absolutely different personalities and ages. At that time, I think, it was the most important thing to keep them together because if they were not good with each other then they couldn’t do well as a team.” – Peter Teglas

In 2017 Teglas opened a new chapter in his coaching career, accepting an offer to become national coach of Luxembourg with Zoltan Bátorfi taking over as Hungarian women’s team coach.

Speaking about the move Teglas told the ETTU that his decision to stand down from his role with the Hungarian team was difficult but ultimately thinks that he made the correct choice was made for all parties involved.

“It was a very difficult decision because in the past, I have had many different offers. Then in 2015 a contact in Luxemburg came to me with an offer. I didn’t think about it seriously due to already being involved with Hungarian national team, but at this time I started to think about my future. I had worked with Hungarian teams for 20 years, I thought that for the players and for myself it’s time for a change. I had never worked abroad and I wanted to start a new life. I think it was a good decision.” – Peter Teglas
