The drama surrounding the Chinese men’s team continues, after the Chinese Table Tennis Association announced that it has withdrawn all of its male entries from the upcoming 2017 Australian Open.

Zhang Jike, Fan Zhendong, Xu Xin, Yan An, Liang Jingkun and Lin Gaoyuan were all set to appear at the ITTF World Tour Gold Coast event but the CTTA has taken the decision to remove its male players from the entry list.

Apparently this decision has been made because the players are “not in competitive condition and exhausted due to continuous competitions and injuries”, according to the CTTA.

This news comes following the recent match forfeits at the 2017 China Open from Ma Long, Fan Zhendong and Xu Xin in what is an apparent protest towards the CTTA’s decision to move Liu Guoliang from his former role as head coach to a vice president position within the national governing body.

Despite the male player withdrawal, the ITTF states that the Chinese female stars will still be appearing at the 2017 Australian Open.
