Once again it is the Chinese women’s team that has captured the Women’s Team trophy on the Team World Cup stage following a terrific outing at the 2018 edition of the event hosted in London.

Defending their title from 2015, Team China met top seeds Japan in the final in front of a sell-out crowd at the Copper Box Arena.

The match began with a strong doubles display from Ding Ning and Liu Shiwen, who overcame Hina Hayata and Mima Ito by a 3-1 scoreline (11-7, 11-6, 6-11, 11-8) to give China the lead.

Zhu Yuling then extended China’s advantage with a powerful effort against Kasumi Ishikawa (11-5, 11-7, 11-7) to leave Japan on the brink of defeat.

World and Olympic champion Ding Ning then brought the match to a close with a straight games victory over Mima Ito (11-7, 11-9, 11-8) as China registered a 3-0 win overall.

“I am very happy to have won all my matches here; thanks to the fans for the support. Last year I took a break, I don’t think I’m full back 100 per cent but I’m on the road. Mima Ito is young and she fights hard. I will keep trying my best, I hope I’ll be in Tokyo for the 2020 Olympic Games.” – Ding Ning
