Wang Manyu has got her year off to a strong start after picking up the Women’s Singles title at the 2018 Hungarian Open on 21st January.

Meeting fellow Chinese teenage star Sun Yingsha in the final it was a repeat fixture of the 2017 World Junior Championships final.

Sun Yingsha prevailed on that occasion but this time out it very much Wang Manyu’s day to celebrate.

Despite trailing by a 2-3 scoreline Wang Manyu remained calm, coming out on top in the next two games to lift the trophy (9-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8, 11-4).

“I am very very happy about winning the title here in Budapest… I was very good at reading her serves throughout the match and I was able to come back many times into the match because today I felt very strong mentally.” – Wang Manyu.

Wang Manyu now has two ITTF World Tour Women’s Singles titles to her name having won at last year’s Austrian Open.
