The 2017 World Table Tennis Championships have been brought to a close, after Ding Ning and Liu Shiwen emerged triumphant in the Women’s Doubles final on Monday 5th June.

This was the final match of the 2017 World Championships, and the spectators in attendance in Düsseldorf were treated to a delightful finale.

Ding Ning and Liu Shiwen, who were the No.3 seeds for the category, took on the fourth seeds Chen Meng and Zhu Yuling in an all-Chinese final which featured fantastic attacking action from both teams.

After the opening three games had been played out it was Chen and Zhu who held the 1-2 advantage, but Ding and Liu upped their performance levels before eventually securing a 3-2 lead heading into game six.

Chen and Zhu managed to force a seventh game after a solid showing in the sixth end, but it was not to be for the young partnership as Ding and Liu came out on top in the deciding game (9-11, 11-8, 11-13, 11-8, 11-6, 6-11, 11-9).

Heading into the finale Ding Ning had lost in the Women’s Doubles final at the World Championships on four occasions, but now she finally lifts the trophy and will be delighted to leave Düsseldorf with both the Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles titles.
